Sharing Ideas Across Europe: Welcoming Our Slovenian Guests in Longford
This week, we were delighted to welcome visitors from the Municipality of Bovec in Slovenia, together with colleagues from Longford County Council, to the Maria Edgeworth Visitor Centre following their stop at Co:worx. Their visit was part of a wider exploration of some of the most inspiring community projects currently underway across County Longford.
Learning From One Another
During their time here, we had the opportunity to share the story of our work and the positive impact it continues to have locally. In turn, we were fascinated to hear from our Slovenian guests in Longford about the innovative initiatives happening in Bovec. Exchanges like this highlight the many ways in which communities, no matter how far apart geographically, often face similar challenges and can learn so much from each other’s experiences.

The Role of URBACT
This visit took place under the umbrella of the URBACT programme, which helps towns and cities across Europe collaborate by exchanging ideas and good practices to support better urban development. With partners in 28 countries, URBACT promotes social inclusion, community development, and effective ways of measuring impact in urban regeneration.
Building Stronger Communities Together
Smaller towns across Europe often encounter many of the same obstacles — from regeneration needs to promoting inclusion — and URBACT provides a valuable framework for addressing them collectively. By sharing knowledge and solutions, we can all make progress together.
Longford County Council is proud to be a partner in this important European initiative. You can find out more about the project and Longford’s involvement here: Longford County Council URBACT
