We are looking for entries from aspiring writers for our Poetry & Short Story Competitions. Become a part of the Maria Edgeworth Festival of Literature & Arts and join with other literary enthusiasts.
Adjudicators will judge your entries for our Literary Writing Competitions. Additionally, they will compose a short list, which will consist of prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and three highly commended.

Before entering the Poetry & Short Story Competition, we kindly ask everyone to carefully read the competition rules (which you will find on the Competition Entry pages) and the help section below on how to enter. Links to enter the competition are below
There will be workshops for aspiring poets and short story writers as well as one to help you bring your stories to life. Workshops will be facilitated by Éilís Ní Dhuibhne (short stories), Enda Wyley (poetry) and Emma Clohessy (Bring your stories to life)
Firstly, select the ‘Enter Competition’ button for the category you wish to enter.
Then, on the new page that appears, you make your payment. Payment is by credit/debit card only. We use Stripe to handle payments. Your confirmation email may go into spam so please check your spam folder if you do not get one. If it’s not in spam, then please contact us.
Finally, once payment is made, a new page opens where you add your name and email (mandatory), then attach your poems or short story by selecting the ‘Choose Files’ button and finding them on your computer. Files must be in Microsoft Word Format (version 2007 or more recent). You can also use Open or Libre Office, but files must be in the .docx format or the files will be rejected
