About the Event

Join our local guide on Edgeworthstown’s Heritage & Literary Trail. Explore a small country town in rural Ireland, quietly tucked away in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands. And unearth its name: “The Town of the Great Writers”. Follow in the footsteps of historical figures, like Sir Walter Scott, William Wordsworth, Oscar Wilde and many more. Take this breathtaking literary walking tour and uncover their connections with the town of Edgeworthstown.

What do I need to bring?

Keep an eye on the weather and dress accordingly 

It’s Ireland, always bring a raincoat! And we hopefully won’t need it!

Matt Farrell

There is a widespread belief that our local historian, Matt, is married to Maria Edgeworth. Recognized as the Heritage Hero of 2017, he earned this title through his remarkable passion and unwavering commitment. Matt serves as the driving force behind the Maria Edgeworth Centre, dedicating himself to preserving her memory and promoting awareness of  her family and the extraordinary heritage of Edgeworthstown.
