Longford Writers Group is delighted to host an evening of poetry as part of the Maria Edgeworth Festival.
The Longford Writers Group has a beautiful relationship with poetry, both traditional and contemporary and is excited to invite poets from around Ireland to take part in this enchanting evening. Refreshments will be served.
Places are limited for both reading poetry and attending as a poetry appreciator; please make contact well in advance in order for us to put your name on our list.

Longford Writer’s Group consists of a dedicated group of local writers who meet in Longford Library every third Wednesday at 8.00pm. The group has a membership of about 20. Its project in 2019 was the publication of a collection of short stories and poetry entitled ‘Home Made’, with contributions from 17 members.

On the 17th of August 2024 as part of Heritage Week, with support from the County Heritage Officers, the Heritage Council, Longford County Council Libraries, Archives, Arts and Heritage,
IMMA, OPW and the Computer and Communications Museum Ireland on the NUIG Campus,
Ray Jordan and volunteers from the Maria Edgeworth Centre aim to simulate Edgeworth’s 1803 transmission by telegraph.
