The Maria Edgeworth Literary Festival has been a feature of the Literary scene since 1996. Continuously growing in popularity and attracting wider recognition as the years have gone by. With a mix of text, images and videos we created these pages as Literary Festival Recaps. Basically as to give you a feel for what you can expect at our future Festivals. It is significant that several past participants and winners have come back to the Festival as adjudicators for the Poetry and Short Story competitions. Read more about the history of the Festival >> here
But it hasn’t been all about the writing, there has been music, drama, social occasions, art, exhibitions and recently an International Conference on Education. All this, in a way, reflects the Edgeworths themselves, a family that were very involved in literary, social and scientific endeavours.
For the Literary Festival 2025 we ventured into some new territory with the addition of a ‘Movement’ theme to the weekend featuring Yoga and Regency Dance, talks on fashion, on Trinity College and the artist Harry Kernoff.

For the Literary Festival 2024 we ventured into some new territory with a symposium on “Resilience & Well-Being through Education”, had some interesting art on display, had two open mike events and added an Artisan Market and an International Music Act to the Sunday events.
2023 marked the 225th Anniversary of the publication of “Practical Education”. Therefore, we honoured this occasion with a special highlight – an International Education Conference.
The 2022 Festival was our first ‘live’ festival since 2019. We organised a three day Festival packed with various events. With attention to revive the 18th Century Mostrim Tea Party in all its splendour.
Once again we had to abandon our initial plans for our 2021 Festival and opted instead to go virtual, featuring a number of writers, singers and musicians. And instead of the Poetry and Short Story Competitions we arranged a Letter Writing Competition.
Still in the planning stages of the 2020 Festival, the pandemic struck. Shutting down events across the country and world. As a result we had to abandon our plans for 2020 and cancelled the Festival.
