Castlecor House & Hunting Lodge
A Historic Country House with Deep Edgeworth Connections
Nestled in Ireland’s heartlands, Castlecor is a remarkable 18th-century Hunting Lodge featuring unique architecture and a grand octagonal “Great Hall” with four cardinal wings.
The estate is deeply tied to the literary circle of Maria Edgeworth (1768–1849). It was originally owned by Rev Cutts Harman and Bridget Gore. Then inherited by the 1st Earl of Rosse and Countess Dowager Jane Rosse, whom Maria knew well alongside their daughter, Lady Frances Parsons Harman King. Following a period under Captain Thomas Hussey, it was purchased c. 1858by Thomas Bond of Edgeworthstown keeping it within the Bond dynasty for decades up to Castlecor’s Chatelaine Emily Constance Bond in the mid 1900s.
Current owners began a careful restoration in 2010, keeping this hidden heritage gem alive.
This event is kindly supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport under their After Hours at the Museum scheme.
